Lauren Simonutti graduated from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, in 1990 with a BFA in photography. She moved to New York City, where her fine arts degree enabled her to attain numerous positions in the food service, cocktail waitressing, and bartending industries.

Unexpected illness recently rendered her virtually housebound and led to a solitary life. She has become a creature of past, proof, memory, and imaginary friends. Over 3 1/2 years, she has been alone in her delicate wreck of a house, recording what she sees here. Recording what she learns. She is represented by Catherine Edelman Gallery.
