This video is the most recent of my digital graffiti series in which I take famous film clips and animate my own stuff on top. In this case it's the staircase sequence from the Battleship Potemkin. Watch as stark geometry begins to squash the organic!

Mike Estabrook

Mike Estabrook is a Brooklyn based artist originally from the Mississippi River town of Quincy, Illinois.  

His work is a characterized by an irreverent humor and fantastical figurative language, often addressing political or existential subjects. It moves through many different media- taking form through animation, drawing, painting, and installation. 

Estabrook's work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and non-profit spaces worldwide, including Mixed Greens, Collegium Artisticum Terezije, Sarajevo, BiH; The Queens Museum; The Bronx Museum; Quartair Fine Arts, Den Haag, NL; PPOW Fine Arts; and PS1/MOMA. 

In addition, he has been at several prestigious artist's residencies, including The MacDowell Colony; The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace program; NY Arts Bejing, China; Artists in the Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum; the Rotating Studio Program at the Artist's Alliance; and LMCC's Governors Island residency. 

His work has been cited in many publications, including The New York Times, Time Out New York, The Brooklyn Rail, and L Magazine.  

He received his BFA from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and completed his MFA from Queens College in 2005.

Estabrook is a founding and ongoing member of the collective Artcodex.
