John Goulet is a late-comer to the visual arts. Under the guidance of Michael Meyers, Professor, the Art Institute of Chicago, he has in the last four years completed numerous digital and video projects. Most of his work has been done in Photoshop CS5 and reproduced on color printers. He has over seventy videos on Youtube.

Goulet is in addition a widely-published short story writer and novelist (Oh's Profit, William Morrow; Yvette in America, U of Colorado Press) whose work has been reviewed in The New York Times, The New Yorker and The London Times Literary Supplement. A review in Sewanee Review placed Yvette in America in the ranks of Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio and Alice Munro’s The Beggar Maid.

Goulet’s stories have appeared in numerous journals and magazines, including The Kansas Quarterly, The Sonora Review, Folio, The Crescent Review, Denver Quarterly, Cream City Review, Brooklyn Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Carolina Quarterly, The Beloit Fiction Quarterly, The Literary Review, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, Cutbank, and the Norton anthology, FLASH FICTION FORWARD. In the last year, he has stories in The Massachusetts Review, Prime Number, Literary Juice, and The Baltimore Review. “The Drowning Bear” is upcoming in StoryQuarterly.

Goulet grew up in Boston, Colorado and Iowa. He attended St. John’s University (Minnesota), San Francisco State, and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Active in the civil rights movement, he spent time in a Clarksdale, Mississippi jail in the spring of 1963. He later served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, and—after receiving a Ph.D. at Iowa—he accepted a position at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where he is currently Emeritus Professor of English and continues to teach courses in creative writing.
