Maureen Jolie Anderson is a video artist whose work has often dealt with historical cultural memory and its often unavoidable impossibility. Her work utilizes appropriated and archival, textual, visual and audio materials to create speculative historical narratives.  Currently she is pursuing her PhD in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where she is creating a databank of videos using the year of her birth, 1977, as a starting point from which to explore global social and political media contexts of a time in one's life--for which one cannot have any direct personal memory at all.
