Jennifer Hymer: kalimba & live-electronics

“Sequitur XIV” focusses on the Kalimba, a western re-invention of a traditional African folk instrument. In the beginning of the piece, I am using the Kalimba—a wooden box with tines—more like a percussion instrument. Later on, its metal lamellas are brought into the play. Although restricted to 15 diatonic tones I took the challenge to break up this tonal limitations with the aid of the live-electronics.
