Lygia Ballantyne

Lygia Ballantyne’s nonfiction has appeared in Eclectica and Persimmon Tree. She began to write in 2006 after retiring from a career selecting and acquiring foreign books for the Library of Congress and scores of American academic libraries. She worked mostly overseas for a combined twenty-seven years: in Brazil, her home country, in Haiti and in India, where she spent twelve years. Since retiring, she has taken online courses and workshops—with UCLA’s Writers Program and NYC’s Writers Studio—to rid her prose of bureaucratese and stimulate her creative literary juices, last flowing when she was writing a novel, in Portuguese, in high school. She lives in Virginia with her husband of thirty-eight years and a bichon frisé named Daisy.
