Brendan was, not long ago, at dusk, sitting in an elegant old cafe in Paris. He now finds himself in the labyrinthine bohemia of Beijing's hutongs. Self taught as an artist his work has been concerned with experimentation and investigation into a number of fields including the nature of memory, history, duality and gender politics. Primarily incorporating collage his work collides imagery from within his own life and that of popular culture to form tapestries of possibility. His art has found its way into the collection of many corporate and private collections and numerous public galleries including the National Gallery of Australia. He is currently working on a number of projects spanning Europe, Asia and Australia. He currently lives and works in Beijing. www.mccumstie.com
