I originally designed Clear Hawse, a meditation on what anchors us, as a 4-inch by 6-inch chapbook to be printed with a perfect bound spine. Short on cash, I opted to print ten iterations of this inland sea tale on a stash of envelopes. I consider the resulting handmades a chain letter (sans letter) which I sent to artist/writer friends willing to mar(k) them for free. Here are collaborative marrings by Anne Gorrick and Katie Yates (and her children Juliette and Gabe Forstrom).
Lori Anderson Moseman's Lori Anderson Moseman's newest poetry collection, All Steel, is just out from Flim Forum Press. Anderson Moseman is the author of Temporary Bunk (Swank Books), Persona (Swank Books), Cultivating Excess (The Eighth Mountain Press) and Walking the Dead (Heaven Bone Press). Anderson Moseman has a Masters of Fine Art from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and a Doctor of Arts from the University at Albany. She also has a Masters of Fine Art in Electronic Arts from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Her undergraduate degrees are in Forestry and Technical Journalism. She's been a forester tech, a farm reporter and an educator. She founded Stockport Flats press in the wake of Federal Disaster #1649, a flood along the Delaware River. Belle Gironda's is a poet, author of Building Codes, from Stockport Flats and other things. She lives in Brooklyn and keeps a crows nest with Allen Dye in Asheville. They marred a Clear Hawse together in Kure Beach in winter.
Sheila Goloborotko is a Portuguese-and Spanish-speaking native of São Paulo, Brazil who works and lives in New York City. A master printmaker, she has shown in venues from London To Buenos Aires, including Grabadores Brasileños Contemporâneos, Jardin de las Esculturas, Mexico 2011, Jóias Raras, Galeria Graphias, São Paulo 2011, and Sculpted Memory, Rush Gallery, New York 2011. This year she is in the midst of a public project called 1001 Sonhos ("1001 Dreams") in which she is seeding hand-printed pillowcases (in editions of 10) outdoors in two international cities. The pillowcases, a free gift to the person who finds them, are printed with the dreams of others who have participated in the project (by blog). Goloborotko won't stop until she has amassed 1001 dreams.
Anne Gorrick is the author of I-Formation (Book 1) (Shearman Books, Exeter, UK, 2010) and Kyotologic (Shearman, 2008). Her new book I-Formation (Book 2) is due out in 2012.
Collaborating with artist Cynthia Winika, she produced a limited edition artists’ book called “Swans, the ice,” she said with grants through the Women’s Studio Workshop in Rosendale, NY, and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
Katie Yates grew up mostly in French West Africa with stints in India and Turkey and now finds herself in New Haven, Connecticut not a bad place to raise children. She has a DA from The University at Albany, an MFA from Naropa University and a BA from Carleton College. She lives with her blended family in a brick house in the suburbs and looks for insight in Buddhist teachings as much as she can. She still considers the Pacific Northwest her home. She is the author of Morning Stories, High Watermark Salo[o]n: Volume 3 Number 2.
