Read Pulitzer Prize winning poet Gregory Pardlo in Drunken Boat

Unknown We are excited to announce that one of our talented contributors was recently awarded the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for poetry! Gregory Pardlo was recently a contributing author to the non-fiction section of DB 20, sharing his essay “Hurrah for Schoelcher!" with us all. His remarkable descriptions of human interactions, inner thoughts and feelings make readers feel as though they are the character in his story or at least incredibly relatable. When I did look, I found myself rummaging for signs of betrayal as if it were a fishbone in the mouthful of flaky meat I had made of her eyes.” He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for his book, Digest. Publisher Four Way Books made the following statement: From Epicurus to Sam Cook, the Daily News to Roots, Digest draws from the present and the past to form an intellectual, American identity. In poems that forge their own styles and strategies, we experience dialogues between the written word and other art forms. Within this dialogue we hear Ben Jonson, we meet police K-9s, and we find children negotiating a sense of the world through a father’s eyes and through their own.” Before winning the Pulitzer Prize, Digest was also nominated for the 2015 NAACP Image Award in poetry. Gregory Pardlo was also the recipient of the APR/Honickman Prize in 2007 and the 2004 winner of the Lotus Club foundation award for creative Writing. He has also been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes. Although his schedule is sure to be filling up fast, Gregory Pardlo will be doing appearances, readings, and workshops over the summer months.
