Vintage DB 36: Miguel Rivera's translation of Humberto Ak'abal's "Altas Horas," DB 13

Miguel Rivera's "Early Hours" is a translation of Guatemalan poet Humberto Ak'abal's five-line poem, "Altas Horas." Appearing in DB 13, Winter 2012-2011, this work is one of many in the issue with a cultural connection and was originally written in the Mayan language Mayaquiché, its intricacies beautifully converted and preserved in English by musician Miguel Rivera. Humberto Ak'abal is an active and well-decorated poet whose works have been widely translated into French, English, German Arabic, and more. He resides in Momostenango, Totonicapán, Guatemala.
