Liliana Valenzuela
Born and raised in Mexico City, Liliana Valenzuela is an adopted tejana.
As a literary translator, her recent publications include La última
de las muchachas del menú by Denise Chavez, Un regalo de gracias,
En busca de milagros by Julia Alvarez, Caramelo, El
arroyo de la Llorona, and Hairs/Pelitos by Sandra Cisneros,
and ¡Caramba! by Nina Marie Martínez. A featured poet at the
Austin International Poetry Festival, the IX Encuentro de Mujeres
Poetas en el País de las Nubes festival, in Oaxaca, Mexico, Palabras:
A Latino Literary Festival in Austin, Texas, La Voz Latina Festival
in Northwest Arkansas, and the Border Book Festival in Las Cruces,
New Mexico, Liliana has published three bilingual poetry chapbooks,
or “libritos,” entitled Bocas palabras; Mujer frontera,
mujer Malinche; and The Poetry of Rice Fields. She
has twice been poet-in-residence at the Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow,
where she completed a full-length poetry manuscript entitled Códice
del deseo/Codex of Desire. Her show Oh!rmones/Oh!rmonas,
with poet Rebecca Tassi and actor Alejandra Murga, made its debut
in May 2005 in San Antonio, Texas, at the AXTYRX performance space.
Most recently, Random House released an audio book of La casa en
Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, read by Liliana Valenzuela. She
