One Hundred Favorite Classical Masterpieces – Ramón Sender Barayón
When I was fourteen, I discovered that I could tune the living room Magnavox radio between stations to a place where it seemed that I could hear all the stations at the same time. I then found I could audio-hallucinate any music I wanted out of that rich sound. “Here comes the oboe solo,” I would say, and sure enough I would hear an oboe arise from the sonic maelstrom. A lot of the electronic music I composed over the years has been an attempt to duplicate that “hallucinate your own tune” experience, especially in a series of drone pieces titled “World Food.”
This current piece is yet another attempt, but this time I stacked one hundred segments from various over-exposed classical ‘war horses’ on top of each other to create a rich sonic texture out of which the listener is encouraged to hear his own music. Here is a list of the titles used and their timed segments:

Ramón Sender Barayón has created various personas as communitarian, electronic music composer, clown, performance artist, and spiritual explorer. The current American Groves Dictionary of Music contains a bio and list of his early compositions, and several electronic works are included in the DVD bundled with book, "The San Francisco Tape Music Center: 1960s Counterculture and The Avant-Garde" (UCPress - 2008). His 1960s musical chants are included in the book "Being of the Sun" (co-authored with Alicia Bay Laurel, Harper & Row - 1974). He also is the proud inventor of The Gruntler (a one reed instrument) and The Thwisher (a rattle tuned to the sound of his nervous system). (http://www.raysender.com)
