Shira Dentz 's poems and stories have appeared or are forthcoming in The American Poetry Review, Field, American Letters & Commentary, Denver Quarterly, Colorado Review, Seneca Review, Western Humanities Review, jubilat, and other journals. She is the recipient of an Academy of American Poets’ Prize, Poetry Society of America’s Lyric Poem and Cecil Hemley Memorial Awards, Electronic Poetry Review’s Discovery Award, and Painted Bride Quarterly’s Poetry Prize. Her stories have been finalists for the PEN/Nelson Algren Award and the Heekin Foundation's Fellowship for Short Fiction, and her poems have featured on Poetry Daily's website and recorded on National Public Radio. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she currently is a creative writing doctoral candidate at the University of Utah. Before attending the Iowa Workshop and the U. of Utah, she worked as a graphic artist in New York City, and taught English in a Brooklyn public high school as a New York City Teaching Fellow. Her chapbook, Leaf Weather, is forthcoming from Tilt Press.
