Ng Yi-Sheng
is a full-time writer of poetry, drama, non-fiction, fiction, slam, journalism and criticism. He won the Singapore Literature Prize (English) in 2008 for his debut poetry collection, last boy, and his non-fiction book SQ21: Singapore Queers in the 21st Century has been featured on the best-seller lists. His other books include the novelisation of the movie Eating Air and On His Wings: Soaring, a history of ACS (Independent).
Yi-Sheng’s plays include Toy Factory’s 251 (about local porn star Annabel Chong), Musical Theatre Ltdrsquo;s Georgette (about local artist Georgette Chen), W!ld Rice’s The Last Temptation of Stamford Raffles, (about Singapore’s colonial founder) and TheatreWorks’s Reservoir (about the World War II Shinto Shrine at MacRitchie). He has also created performances with the multi-disciplinary art collective V.I.S.T.A Lab.
Yi-Sheng writes for the children’s newspaper What’s Up and the gay portal Fridae.com. He also contributes theatre criticism to sites such as the Flying Inkpot Theatre and Dance Reviews and the Straits Times. He is currently a Creative-In-Residence at 72-13. He blogs at http://lastboy.blogspot.com.
