P.S. Rege was born in the Ratnagiri area in 1910, studied economics in Bombay and London, and was a Professor of Economics at Elphinstone College, Bombay. The most original practitioner of “pure poetry” in modern Marathi, he published over ten books of poems, critical essays, and works of fiction.
