Maki Kureishi was born in 1927 in Calcutta to a Parsee family and died in 1995. She moved to Karachi in her early teens and remained there, teaching at Karachi University’s English Department for thirty years. Her poems were gathered into the posthumous collection The Far Thing (1997, Oxford University Press).
