Selva Casal (b. 1930) is the author of fifteen books of poetry. A former lawyer, Casal is inspired by her experiences working with people who have faced injustice. Her 1975 publication of “No vivimos en vano” (“We do not live in vain”) during the military dictatorship resulted in her losing her position as a professor of sociology. She resides in Montevideo, Uruguay.
