Hristo Karastoyanov

Hristo Karastoyanov is the author of 30 novels. His work, translated into English, Turkish and German, is characterized by an intellectual and literary nonconformity, often it is unapologetically graphic, and the author shows a fascination with the unchanging elements of humanity throughout history. Karastoyanov’s most recent novel, The Same Night Awaits Us All: Diary of a Novel (2014)—currently in its fourth printing—has enjoyed near universal critical acclaim along with its commercial success in Bulgaria. It received some of the biggest literary prizes in the country: Helikon, Pencho’s Oak, and most recently, the Elias Canetti award. The English translation of the novel is forthcoming from Open Letter Books in Spring 2017.
